Nuestra actividad de primeros de mes va a ser muy interesante y original.  D´Sherry Explorers hemos sido invitados al homenaje a Shakespeare que tendrá lugar el 6 de septiembre en Jerez en el Parque González Hontoria.  Este evento lo organiza José Luis Jiménez presidente del Cine Club Popular de Jerez y un gran investigador sobre el vino de Jerez y su relación con el cine y la literatura entre otros campos.

Our activity for the beginning of the month will be very interesting and unique.  The D´Sherry Explorers have been invited to a Tribute to Shakespeare which will be held on the 6th of September, in Jerez, at the Gonzalez Hontaria park.  This event is being organized by Jose Luis Jiménez, President of the Cine Club Popular de Jerez (a group of film aficionados).  He is an avid researcher of facts relating to Sherry wine and its presence in film and literature, as well as in other media.

No cabe duda que Shakespeare se merece este homenaje.  El autor inglés más conocido de todos los tiempos fue un gran aficionado al Sherry, lo que se refleja a lo largo de su obra, donde estos vinos son mencionados en más de 50 ocasiones. De todos sus personajes, el emblemático Falstaff, de la obra Enrique IV, fue el que manifestó su pasión por el Sherry con mayor entusiasmo, afirmando que: “Si mil hijos tuviera en primer principio humano que les enseñaría sería de abjurar de toda bebida insípida y dedicarse por entero al jerez”.

El propio Shakespeare, en compañía de su amigo Ben Johnson, daba buena cuenta cada día del vino de Jerez en el Boar´s Head Tavern. Era tal su devoción por este vino, que llegó a decir de él: “Sherry, sherry, sherry, by my troth he makes me merry”. (Sherry2.0)

There is no doubt that Shakespeare deserves this tribute.  The best known English author of all time was a great fan of Sherry wines, as evidenced throughout his literary works where these wines are mentioned at least 50 different times.  Of all of his literary characters, the memorable Falstaff, in the play Henry IV, demonstrated his passion for Sherry with the most enthusiasm by stating:  “If I had a thousand sons the first human principle that I would teach them would be to foreswear all thin potations and addict themselves to Sherry Sack.”

Shakespeare himself, in the company of his friend Ben Johnson, was devoted to drinking Sherry on a daily basis at the Boar´s Head Tavern.  His devotion to this wine was such that he once said:  “Sherry, sherry, sherry, by my troth he makes me merry.” (Sherry 2.0)
