Definitivamente el ensayo de feria en la Peña Flamenca El Nitri en El Puerto de Santa María fue un exitazo.

Without a doubt, the Feria workshop at the Peña Flamenco el Nitri in El Puerto de Santa María was a success.

Todo empezó porque venían unos amigos de Texas y de California y no queríamos que se fuesen sin experimentar esta fiesta tan nuestra.  El sitio, la Peña El Nitri, estupendo tanto por lo bonito que es como por sus ricas y típicas tapas.  Pensé en mi amiga Carolina que da clases de sevillanas en la base, era una oportunidad estupenda para sus alumnas para ponerse sus vestidos de flamenca, practicar las sevillanas, recibir consejos sobre como disfrutar en la feria, y como no, aprender sobre los vinos de Jerez.

This project was born because we were hosting a visit by friends from Texas and California.  We wanted them to experience a fiesta that was unique to our part of the world.  The place, the Peña El Nitri, was perfect not only because it is typical and authentic, but also because of the flavorful Andalusian tapas that they serve.  I thought of a friend, Carolina, who teaches Sevillana classes on base.  It was the perfect opportunity for her students to try out their flamenco dresses, practice their Sevillanas, learn some hints on how to enjoy the Feria, and, of course, to learn about Sherry wines.

 

El estupendo grupo “Las Tomasas” animó cantando sevillanas, alguna rumbita y hasta unos tanguillos de Cádiz.

The fantastic group “Las Tomasas” performed by singing Sevillanas, some rumbas, and even some Cadiz tanguillos.

 

Hicimos una presentación sobre nuestros estupendos vinos de Jerez.  Catamos Manzanilla “La Goya”, Fino “Tío Pepe”, Oloroso “Alfonso” y Pedro Ximénez “Monteagudo”, y además todos practicamos el cabeceo echando un poquito de PX en el oloroso y conseguimos nuestro cream particular. Damos las gracias a Bodegas Delgado Zuleta, de Sanlúcar,  y Bodegas González Byass, en Jerez.

Of course, we presented some of our amazing Sherry wines.  We tasted Manzanilla “La Goya,” Fino “Tío Pepe,” Oloroso “Alfonso.” and Pedro Ximénez “Monteagudo.”  We also practiced creating our own version of a Sherry cream by blending a little bit of the Pedro Ximenez with the Oloroso.  We would like to thank the Bodega Delgado Zuleta, in Sanlúcar, and the Bodegas González Byass, in Jerez.

Carolina, from Dance Sevillanas, explained what to do, and what not to do, when you go the feria.  She also graced us with a beautiful demonstration of how to dance a Sevillana with a Spanish shawl.

More than fifty Americans, from the U.S. Naval Station Rota, are now ready to go to Feria!
