El grupo bodeguero José Estévez S.A. es una compañía familiar. Con una gran tradición en laboración y crianza de vinos y brandies de Jerez, Grupo Estévez es propietario de las prestigiosas bodegas Marqués del Real Tesoro y Valdespino, sin duda, una de las más antiguas de la zona que remonta su actividad comercial a 1430. En el año 2007 se incorporó al Grupo las bodegas M. Gil Luque y Rainiera Pérez Marín, propietario de la prestigiosa marca de manzanilla de Sanlúcar “La Guita“.  Destacan sus 800 hectáreas de viñedos propios, parte de ellas en el conocido y prestigioso pago de Macharnudo. Es el tercer productor de vinos de Jerez y uno de los más importantes de Brandy, con una capacidad de envejecimiento de 45.000 botas.  Tiene tres líneas de embotellado de última tecnología con capacidad de producción de 45.000 botellas/hora.

 

The winery group José Estévez S.A. is a family business. With a long history of creating and selling Sherry wines and brandies, the Estévez Group is the owner of the prestigious  Marqués del Real Tesoro and Valdespino wineries.  Without a doubt, they are some of the oldest wineries in the area and can trace back their commercial activity to the year 1430.  In 2007, the group merged with the  M. Gil Luque and Rainiera Pérez Marín winery, owners of the popular brand of Sanlúcar manzanilla known as “La Guita.“   The Group´s vineyards encompass an 800-hectare area, part of which are in the well-known  Macharnudo production zone. It is the third producer of Sherry wines and is one of the largest producers of Brandy, with a storage capacity for aging 45.000 barrels.  It has three bottling lines that use the latest technology which allows them to produce up to 45.000 bottles per hour.

La visita fue impresionante.  A veces no sabíamos si estábamos  visitando una bodega, una yeguada o un museo.  No solo vimos las bodegas, la planta de embotellado o las prensas, todo lo típico de una bodega,  sino que también vimos carruajes, caballos,  perros bodegueros,  antigüedades y obras de arte entre las que se encuentran  la Suite Vollard de Picasso,  un cuadro de Miró o una escultura de Jorge Oteiza.

The visit was amazing.  At times we couldn´t tell if we were visiting a winery, a horse farm, or a museum.  We not only toured the winery, the bottling plant, and the wine presses, all of which are typical aspects of wineries, but here  we also saw carriages, horses, bodeguero dogs (rat terriers), antiquities, and works of art.  Some of those works of art included Picasso´s Suite Vollard, a painting by Miró, and a sculpture by Jorge Oteiza.

Para mí fue emocionante ya que Maribel Estévez, al igual que la mayoría de sus hermanos fueron alumnos del Colegio Miller que fundó mi madre en Jerez.  Siempre que me encuentro con ex-alumnos y les veo tan crecidos, y haciendo su trabajo tan bien, (¡algunos no los había vuelto a ver en casi treinta años!), me da una alegría enorme.  Lo más genial es que ahora son muchos de ellos los que me enseñan a mí.

For me it was a thrill to see Maribel Estévez again because she, along with most of her brothers and sisters, was a student at the Miller English School which my mother founded in Jerez.   I am always pleased when I  meet former students and I encounter them all  grown up and doing their jobs so well (Some of them, I haven´t seen for almost 30 years!)  The best part is that now it is quite a few of them who are teaching me.
