The two experts that conducted the tasting were César Saldaña, General Director of the Regulatory Authority and Jorge Pascual, General Director of the Delgado Zuleta winery.  César provided us with a general and informative introduction to Sherry Wines and Jorge told us about the fascinating history of the Delgado Zuleta winery, which is one of the oldest in the area (founded in 1744).  Jorge, then, directed the tasting of various types of Manzanilla wine.

???????????????????????????????

To say “Manzanilla” is equivalent to saying “Sanlúcar de Barrameda.”  This type of sherry wine can only be aged in Sanlúcar.  Its geographical location and micro-climate allow for these wines to acquire some very specific and unique oenological characteristics.  Soon, we will be provide you the details of this very special wine.

At the tasting, we tried a young Manzanilla wine:  Zuleta; La Goya Manzanilla (pasada) and La Goya en rama; another Manzanila pasada which was specially bottled by the Regulatory Authority for the Manzanilla wine 50th birthday celebration; and finally a Zuleta Amontillado wine which represents the final trajectory of any Manzanilla wine. That is, when the protective layer of yeast disappears and the wine continues on towards oxidative aging.  All of the wines were excellent.

We ran across some friends who are great wine experts.  In addition to learning from two great professors, we also had a very enjoyable experience.
