Visita a la Bodega Forlong/ Visit to the Forlong Winery

Not even the Levante winds could keep us away.   A group of about 50 Sherry Explorers assembled at the Forlong vineyards and winery, and we all had a great time.

Alex and Rocío,  the winemakers, along with explorers who were all eager to learn, all went out into the vineyard and we listened to a list of all of the tasks that are carried out and that are necessary throughout the 12 months of the year.  In addition to many other things, they also were able to observe and identify the different varieties of grapes that are planted at the vineyard, and they also learned what is required in order for a wine to be considered an “ecological” or organic wine.

Afterwards we visited the part of the winery where the Forlong wines are made.  They are aged in amphoras, as well as French Oak barrels, and the wines are bottled once they reach that perfect moment in the aging process.

On the entrance path, underneath a twin row of beautiful trees, we tasted three wines – their white, rosé, and red.  Alex explained the tasting notes for each wine, and Rocío did the same, in English, for a group of friends who understood best in that language.

It was time to eat, and the paella arrived just in time.  Rocio´s mother made and it was exquisite.  There was absolutely none of it leftover.

We also enjoyed the many delicious tapas that all of Sherry Explorers brought to share.  We shared them under the shade of the trees, which was a pure delight.

Margarete and Patrizia were selected as the winners of the best tapa prizes, which were identifieda by our secret jury.   Margarete made a “Schweizer wurstsalad” which is a traditional dish made in her homeland, Germany.  Patrizia, who is from Sicily,  made two “Blueberry pies” which is a traditional U.S. dessert    As always, it was very difficult to select only two winning dishes since the culinary expertise of our Sherry Explorers is very high.  There were eggplant tortillas, cherry pies, a tomato and green pepper salad, among others, which all were included in the dishes that the jury most enjoyed.Collage 5

Thank you, Rocío and Alex.  You are making some incredible wines and we hope that you continue to harvest even more success.   The figure of Kokopelli which we gave you is so that you can mount it on the winery wall and so that he can attract an abundance of  more positive things and positive energy.
