The Regulatory Council adds to its extensive network of Sherry wine Ambassadors in Spain and in Latin America
It has been 14 years since the Jerez-Xeres-Sherry Regulatory Council created the Certified Sherry-Wine Educator course. In practical terms, the Educators act as an extension of the Sherry Wine Education Training Center in distant markets, in order to convert themselves into ambassadors of the Sherry wines.
The XIVth convocation of this course, held on the past 9th, 10th, and 11th of March, was comprised of 26 leading professionals in the restaurant industry, sommeliers, educators, and journalists that were from Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Spain.
It is an intensive training program which focuses on the enology of the Sherry production zone. It includes seminars, master wine tasting sessions, and visits to wineries and vineyards. These are all key elements needed to obtain the prestigious title of Certified Sherry-Wine Educator, which recognizes that the attendees have been transformed into educators and representatives of Sherry wines, both in Spain and in the rest of the world.
We are now more than 500 Sherry Wine Educators all over the world.
Among the most memorable moments for this year´s attendees was the visit to the vineyards. There, they were witnesses to several live demonstrations of the grafting and pruning methods peculiar to the Jerez region, masterfully presented by José Manuel Arana. Another memorable moment was the majestic wine-tasting, presented by Beltrán Domecq, of VOS and VORS Sherry wines and which featured these “crown jewels” from the sacristies of several wineries within the Sherry production zone. And finally, equally as memorable was the lesson on harmonizing and pairing with the various cuisines of the world, which journalist José Ferrer presented to the students on their last day of the course.
To all of the new Educators: Welcome to the Club!
