Había que empezar el día con un buen desayuno ya que nos esperaba un día largo con mucho que hacer.

We had to start our day with a good breakfast since we had a long day ahead of us, with a lot to do.

Es que los desayunos en Nueva York es lo que tienen, te dejan…¡ llenísima!

The problem with New York breakfasts is that they leave you ….stuffed!  

Visitamos la pastelería de el famoso chef Carlos “Carlos Bake Shop”, tiene un programa en Canal Cocina y Sofía alucinaba con las tartas, claro que no era para menos.

We visited the famous”Carlos Bake Shop” which is owned by Chef Carlos who has a weekly program on  The Cooking Channel (Canal Cocina).  Sofia was dazzled by the cakes and rightly so.

Dimos una vuelta por la Universidad de Columbia y experimentamos un poquito la lluvia de NYC.

We walked around the Columbia University campus and experienced a little bit of the NYC rain.

Visitamos también la tumba del General Grant.  Un mausoleo donde se encuentra enterrado el cuerpo del general Ulysses S. Grant, uno de los principales protagonistas de la Guerra de Secesión, y el 18º presidente de los Estados Unidos.

We also visited Grant´s Tomb.  It is the final resting place for the remains of General Ulysses S. Grant who was one of the prominent figures of the U.S. Civil War and was the 18th President of the United States.  

El Genral James McPhearson se encontraba presente y le hicimos una fota para enviársela a nuestra amiga y colaboradora, Mª José MacPherson.

General James McPherson was also present and we took a photo of him so that we could send it to our friend and colleague, Mª José MacPherson.  

Conocimos al “Picasso y abrazador oficial de Harlem ”  que  apreciaba que le comprasen sus cuadros y te daba unos achuchones  que te quitaba la respiración!

We met the  “Picasso and the official hugger” of Harlem.  Apparently he appreciates it when you buy one of his works of art and he gives you  a hug that takes your breath away!

Este es el templo donde asistimos a la misa gospel.  No dejaban hacer fotos así es que esta es la única que tenemos.   Hay una zona en  la parte superior para los turistas pero la parte de abajo donde están los fieles no se ve.  Las canciones muy bonitas y merece la pena asistir.

This is the church where we attended a gospel service.  We weren´t allowed to take any photos so this is the only one that we have.  There is an upper gallery for tourists but it is very difficult to see the congregation  under the gallery.   The choir´s songs were beautiful and it was well worth the visit.

Dimos una vuelta en coche de caballos por Central Park, yo iba feliz delante con el señor que llevaba el coche de caballos.  Es enorme, verde, precioso y pasamos un buen rato.

We took a carriage ride through Central Park, and  I rode up front with the carriage driver.  The park is enormous, very green, and beautiful.  We all had a good time.

Nieves nos llevo a comer a una brasserie francesa, Rue 57.  Aquí ya sacaron a mis amigos, La Goya y Tío Pepe de los bolsos y nos hicieron fotos con los artistas franceses de las fotos, con la comida y hasta con el camarero y a Tío Pepe con una “botellita” de champagne Veuve Clicquot.  La comida buenísima y después decidimos ir a dar una vuelta por Central Park andando.

Nieves took us to have lunch at a French brasserie, “Rue 57.”   While we were there, they took my friends, La Goya and Tío Pepe, from their purses and took pictures of us along with the French movie stars in the photos behind us.   Pictures of us with the food, with the waiter, and one of Tio Pepe along a “small bottle” of  Veuve Clicquot champagne.   The meal was excellent.  We then decided to take a stroll through Central Park.

Vimos ardillas, tortugas, patos y hasta había un señor dando de comer a unos ratoncitos pero por ese camino Sofía se sugirió con mucha insistencia que fuésemos por otro y así lo hicimos..

We saw squirrels, turtles, and ducks.  We even saw a man, along the way, feeding the field mice.  When Sofía saw that, however, she suggested that we take another route. So, we did.

Conocimos a estas dos parejas argentinas y les hablamos de nuestros vinos y les regalamos a Tío Pepe para que cumpliese con su labor y les hiciera descubrir nuestro fino y enamorarse de él esa noche en su hotel.  Se fueron encantados.

We met two Argentine couples and we began telling them about our wines.  We gave them our Tío Pepe in order to fulfill his mission of getting them to discover our fino sherry and to fall in love with him that evening.   They were very happy.

Ya solo quedábamos La Goya y yo y nos fuimos todos a tomar el té al Hotel Plaza.  Todo un lujo.  La Goya encajaba a la perfección como si viviese ahí y es que claro, es muy elegante y tiene mucho estilo.

Only  La Goya and myself were left, and we all went to have an afternoon tea at the Plaza Hotel.  Quite a luxury.  La Goya fit very well with the perfection with which they live there.  It makes sense though, since La Goya is very elegant and stylish.

Enfrente del Hotel está la tienda de Apple, impresionante.  Estaba lleno de gente y calculamos que habría unas 150 personas atendiendo a los clientes.  Cuando llegabas te preguntaban en que idioma querías que te atendiesen y te pedían que esperases en una de las mesas llenas de sus productos.

In front of the Hotel is the Apple Store, which is very impressive.  It was full of customers and we calculated that there were at least 150 salespersons tending to them.   When you enter they ask you in what language you want to be served.  They then ask you to wait for a salesperson who speaks that language at a table filled with their products.

Harry Winston, el joyero más famosos de joyas inusuales en el mundo, reconoció que La Goya de Sanlúcar de Barrameda era una de ellas (como podéis ver en esta foto).  Estábamos todos encantados.

Harry Winston, the most famous maker of the most unique jewelry in the world, confirmed (as you can see in this picture), that Sanlúcar de Barrameda´s La Goya belongs in that category.  We were all thrilled.

Ya de vuelta al hotel había una puesta de sol espectacular y las Sherry Girls se pusieron a hacernos fotos.  En esta con Antique Palo Cortado y Antique Fino, los dos de la Bodega Fernando de Castilla.

When we returned to the hotel, we had a spectacular view of the sunset.  Of course, the Sherry Girls started taking photos, along with Antique Palo Cortado and Antique Fino.  Both are from  the bodega Fernando de Castilla.

Con la botella que nos quedaba de Apóstoles, un VORS de la bodega González Byass, y con…….

We also took a picture with the only bottle that we had left of Apóstoles, a VORS (Very Old Rare Sherry) from the winery González Byass and with…..

… una tarjeta de la Bodeguilla del Bar Jamón porque lo de traer un jamón no se nos arreglaba.

… a Bodeguilla del Bar Jamón postcard because bringing a Spanish ham into the U.S. was impossible.

Ahora entenderéis porque veníamos cargadas hasta arriba pero había que traer todo el material para la cata y todas estas botellas para regalar.  Fue otro día maravilloso y a tope.

Now you can understand why we were packed with all sorts of items from Spain, in order to use at the wine-tasting and also to provide the bottles as gifts.  It was a very fulfilling and memorable day.
