This summer we signed up for a summer course at the Pablo Olavide University in the town of Carmona. There were 30 courses to choose from with 368 presenters. This year more than 750 students participated. Alberto and I were among them, as we represented Discover Sherry. Below, I have attached the Summer course curriculum so that you can see for yourselves the incredible variety of courses offered. We signed up for a class on the Wines of Montilla-Moriles. It was very interesting and what really caught my eye was the “vinos generosos” that are produced with the Pedro Ximénez grape variety. We learned a lot and we tried many very interesting wines. Their R&D department has developed a wine that has no additives whatsoever. They are calling it OLAVIDIUM and I hope to provide you with more information about this project at an upcoming Sherry Explorer meeting this Autumn.
Attached is a video that provides a summary, in pictures, of our course, the beautiful Parador in Carmona, and of the town of Carmona itself, which is a an architectural treasure. We also discovered some Sherry wines, since I am always on the lookout for what exists out there. Next year the course Andalucía Wines will be dedicated to Sherry Wines. We will keep you posted. Well, I hope that you enjoy our brief glimpse into Carmona.
