By the feast-day of Saint Andrew (Nov 30th) the wine-must is now wine, and will later become Tio Pepe.

As it does every year, the González Byass winery  celebrated the arrival of its new wine-must.   A group of Sherry Explorers attended the celebration, which included no less than three Honorary Sherry Explorers.  It was a perfect day at the Viña Esteve vineyard, in the heart of the  Pago de Carrascal vineyard region.   Antonio Flores, oenologist and Master Blender at the winery, and José Argudo, Global Marketing Manager for Tio Pepe, were our wonderful hosts.  They introduced us to the persons in charge of the vineyard and they also introduced us to the wine-must from this year´s harvest.  It is a very young wineof the palomino fino variety , which eventually will become Tío Pepe fino sherry after its aging and transformation in the winery´s casks.  The young wine was very, very good,… just like  “The Girl from Ipanema”  ….. so beautiful, young and lovely ….

In addition to the Sherry Explorers,   also present were representatives of the  Asociación de Sumilleres de Cádiz (local association of Sommeliers), representatives of the Ateneo del Vino de El Puerto (local association of wine enthusiasts), oenology students from the University of  Cádiz, many friends that we met up with at the vineyard, along with employees and friends of the winery.  We were all there to enthusiastically welcome the first wine-must (young wine) of this year´s harvest.

We are attaching this video to share a few more photographs of the event.
