I Congreso Internacional sobre los Vinos Tradicionales de Andalucía/ First International Conference on the Traditional Wines of Andalusia

We attended the First International Conference on the Traditional Wines of Andalusia which was held at the “Círculo de Bellas Artes” in Madrid.  Scholars from the world of wine gathered there in order to share their knowledge regarding the wines produced in the Huelva, Jerez-Xeres-Sherry, Málaga, and Montilla-Moriles Denominations of Origin.  In the following link you can see who were some of the speakers in attendance: http://www.congresovinosandalucia.org/w/congresovinos/16691/ponentes

Among the many workshops that we attended, we could not miss those that were headed by  our fellow Sherry Explorers Willy Pérez (who a few days later was named Honorary Sherry Explorer) and Ramiro Ibañez. They made a very interesting tasting/presentation regarding the soils and wine-growing areas peculiar to traditional Andalusian wines.

In addition to learning, we also met up with many of our friends who are part of this incredible world of wine:  the Sherry Women, several professionals from Canal Sur Radio and TV, friends from the Regulatory Council of Jerez, and Edu, our mascot, who was front and center.Encantada de conocer a Sarah Jane Evans, Master of Wine.

We were also very pleased to have met Sarah Jane Evans, Master of Wine.  This well-known professional journalist and wine specialist is shown here along with me and Javier Benítez from Canal Sur.Se celebró también el IV Salón de los Vinos Generosos y Edu se hizo fotos con muchos amigos y Sherry Explorers.

As part of the conference, the IV Salón of Vinos Generosos was also celebrated. Edu had his picture taken along with many friends and Sherry Explorers.  There were almost 40 wineries, representing the four Denomination of Origin regions, which presented their wines.

Nieves Sierra and Vicky Miller, the Sherry Girls who attended, were both of the opinion that the conference was an experience well worth it, although we were only able to attend two days of  the various events.
