This year we celebrated International Sherry Week in an incredible place – Japan. It was an intense week full of activity, but for now we will only tell you about the Sherry Party Sunset Cruise on Tokyo Bay.Las artifices de esta increíble actividad fueron Michiko Takahashi, la fundadora de los Sherry Clubs, y Momoko Izumi (Margarita), venenciadora, Formadora Homologada del vino de Jerez, autora del libro “SHERRY”y Sherry Explorer Honoraria entre otras cosas.
The artistic geniuses behind this incredible event were Michiko Takahashi, the founder of Japan´s Sherry Clubs, and Momoko Izumi (Margarita), champion “venenciadora,” Certified Sherry Wine Educator, author of the book “SHERRY,” and Honorary Sherry Explorer, among many other things. Momoko was in charge of organizing the event, which was no small feat, and she invited us to be part of the celebration by swearing in the new Sherry Explorers. So, off we went.300 amantes del vino de jerez nos juntamos en la cubierta del crucero con un cartelito que decía “#sherryweek”. Todos gritamos: “Sherry, Sherry, Sherry“. Genial.
300 Sherry Lovers gathered together on the main deck of the cruise ship as we each held up a sign with the Sherry week hashtag – “#sherryweek”. We all yelled: “Sherry, Sherry, Sherry“. It was great!
In the dining hall we were greeted by two “venenciadoras” who offered us a glass of fino sherry. Also available, were 210 Sherry wine references, 12 Sherry brandies, and a few vermouths. Among them, there was a table which was only serving sherry wines with VOS and VORS designations. In addition to all of these delicacies, there was, of course, plenty of Cinco Jotas Spanish ham.233 japoneses amantes del jerez hicieron su juramento de Sherry Explorers, ¡no me lo podía creer!
233 Japanese lovers of Sherry wine took the Sherry Explorer´s oath. I couldn´t believe it!
¡¡WE are now 1033 Sherry Explorers throughout the world!! This year we will celebrate this milestone at our annual Honors Dinner.
The finishing touch and grand finale of the event was the naming of Michiko Takahashi as an Honorary Sherry Explorer. Michiko-San has been an incredible promoter of Sherry wine in her native country. Her Sherry Clubs in Kyoto and in Tokyo are renowned points of reference for our beloved Sherry wines.
