On Friday, the 31st of January, we conducted our first tasting in Seville.  It was a wonderful experience.  The tasting was presented in English to the American Women´s Club of Seville, an organization that was founded in 1956.

El viernes 31 de enero hicimos nuestra primera cata en Sevilla.  Fue una experiencia estupenda.  La cata fue en inglés para la American Women´s Club de Sevilla.  Una asociación que se fundó en 1956.

We suggested holding the tasting at the Tabanco de Sevilla, an establishment that opened only a few months ago.  It is located at #15, Calle Rosario and it was the perfect venue.  We presented the tasting in the Tabanco´s patio.  In the past the building was a convent, later it was a women´s hospital, then part of a housing complex, and now, it is a very Jerez-ish wine and tapas bar.  The wines that we tasted were from the Sánchez Romate Bodegas and included:  manzanilla, amontillado, palo cortado,  cream, and  Pedro Ximénez.  The wines were paired with Spanish tortilla,  tuna mojama from Barbate, shredded meat, spinach with garbanzos, and two types of Payoyo cheese.  A perfect pairing.

Sugerimos hacer la cata en El Tabanco de Sevilla un establecimiento inaugurado hace apenas unos meses.  Está en la calle Rosario nº 15 y la elección del lugar fue un acierto.  Hicimos la cata en el patio.  El edificio fue en un principio un convento, luego un hospital de mujeres, luego una casa de vecinos y ahora, un tabanco muy jerezano.  Los vinos que catamos fueron de Sánchez Romate, una manzanilla, amontillado, palo cortado, cream y PX.  Los acompañamos de tortilla de patata, mojama de atún de Barbate, carne mechada, espinacas con garbanzos, y dos tipos de queso payoyo. Un estupendo maridaje.

The venue and atmosphere were very pleasant.  In the group, there were American, English, and Canadian ladies.  Some have lived in Seville for many years and others no more than a year.  I encouraged them to fall in love with sherry or, at least, to start a relationship with our wines which, within a short time would surely win their hearts.  There were many interesting and intelligent questions, accompanied by a sincere interest in learning more about our wines.

La cata transcurrió en un ambiente muy agradable.  En el grupo había señoras americanas, inglesas y canadienses.  Algunas llevan muchos años en Sevilla y otras no más de un año.  Las invité a enamorarse del jerez o al menos a comenzar una relación con nuestros vinos que las enamoraría en poco tiempo.  Hubo muchas preguntas muy interesantes.  Mucho interés por nuestros vinos.

As in all our tastings we drew for some door prizes which included a bottle of La Goya  Manzanilla, a bottle of Tio Pepe Fino, some books on Sherry wines, and the grand prize which was a certificate good for one-night´s stay, including breakfast, at the Hotel Pinomar in El Puerto de Santa María.

Como en todas nuestras catas sorteamos entre los asistentes algunos regalos entre los que había Manzanilla La Goya, Fino Tío Pepe, libros sobre el jerez y el regalo estrella que fue una noche de hotel y desayuno donado por el Hotel Pinomar de El Puerto de Santa María.
