El 30 de mayo de 2014 sobre las 8 de la tarde presentamos D´Sherry Explorers.

On the 30th of May, 2014, at 8 p.m., we presented the D´Sherry Explorers.

Gloria Fernández, la directora de eventos del Hotel Pinomar nos dio a todos la bienvenida y paso la palabra a Virginia Miller, o sea, a mí.  Yo estaba encantada porque llevaba mucho tiempo pensando en este proyecto y por fin había llegado el día.  Hice una pequeña presentación de quiénes somos D´Sherry Explorers, nuestra filosofía, las visitas que ya habíamos hecho en el pasado y algunos de nuestros planes para el futuro.  Al Concejal de Turismo de El Puerto, el Sr. Raúl Capdevilla le encantó todo el proyecto,  nos animó a hacer muchas cosas y nos ofreció su ayuda en todo lo que esté en su mano.  Javier Thuillier, Vice-presidente del Ateneo del Vino de El Puerto también dio la bienvenida a  D´ Sherry Explorers.

Gloria Fernández, Events Director for the Hotel Pinomar, greeted and welcomed us.  I was next on the speaker´s list.  I was delighted since it had been some time that I had been working on this project and I finally was able to see it become a reality.  I explained what D´Sherry Explorers was about, our philosophy, the wine-related visits that we had already made, and some of our plans for the future.  The Tourism Representative for the El Puerto City Hall, Sr. Raul Capdevilla, was excited about the project and encouraged us to continue with similar events. He also graciously offered to help us with those efforts.   The Vice-President of the Ateneo del Vino of El Puerto, Javier Thuillier, also addressed and welcomed the D´Sherry Explorers.

El equipo de Discover Sherry hicimos el primer juramento con salacots u otros sombreros de exploradores, una copa de jerez en una mano y una venencia en otra, brindamos y ya somos Sherry Explorers.

The Discover Sherry team was sworn in first, while wearing their pith helmets, and other explorer-type hats, and holding a glass of sherry in one hand and a venencia in the other.  We all toasted and we are now official Sherry Explorers.

El siguiente grupo que hizo su juramento incluyó al Concejal Raúl Capdevila, al vicepresidente del Ateneo, Javier Thuillier y al Tolo, el Presidente de la Peña Flamenca El Nitri, entre otros apasionados del jerez y del brandy.

The next group that was sworn-in included the City Representative Raúl Capdevila, the vice-president of the Ateneo, Javier Thuillier and Tolo, the President of the Peña Flamenca El Nitri , three more among the many  Sherry and Brandy aficionados.

Debido al gran número de nuevos exploradores fuimos haciendo el juramento por grupos hasta completar los 48 que han prometido seguir aprendiendo sobre nuestros vinos y brandies, promocionarlos dentro de nuestras posibilidades y amarlos apasionadamente.  Faltaron algunos que por distintas circunstancias no pudieron venir pero que irán incorporándose en las reuniones de los terceros jueves de mes.

Due to the large amount of new explorers, we repeated the swearing-in ceremony several times.  48 new explorers promised to learn more about sherry wines and brandies, to promote them to the best of their ability, and to love them with a passion.    There were a few new members that were unable to attend due to various circumstances, but we will be swearing them in at the meetings which will be held the third Thursday of each month.

Amigos blogueros, dedicados al turismo ecuestre, profesores, ingenieros norteamericanos, doctores alemanes, enólogos, formadores homologados del Vino de Jerez, vitivinicultores, bodegueros, historiadores, vamos que no faltó de nada.

Our group included bloggers, an equestrian tour operator, professors, a U.S. engineer, a German doctor, oenologists, Sherry Wine Educators, winery owners and professionals, and historians…a little bit of everything.

 

También la Presidente de la Asociación de Castillos de Cádiz, Lola Barrios es ya una Sherry Explorer.

Lola Barrios, the President of the Cadiz Association of Castle Enthusiasts is also now a Sherry Explorer.

El Equipo Discover Sherry preparamos unas tapitas muy ricas al igual que hacemos siempre en nuestras catas. Fueron un éxito completo.

The Discover Sherry team prepared tasty tapas similar to the ones that we prepare for our wine tastings.  They were all a delicious hit.

 

El ajoblanco, el gazpacho de sandía y la crema de aguacate también gustaron mucho y el cream de Primitivo Collantes que servimos on the rocks fue un acierto.

The ajoblanco, watermelon gazpacho, and avocado cream were crowd pleasers.  The Primitivo Collantes Sherry cream was also a big hit.

 

No podían faltar los canellés, los brownies o los cupcakes de Pedro Ximénez preparados por Colette, Encarna y Joe de equipo Discover Sherry, todos una delicia.

Other delicacies included canellés, brownies, and cupcakes made with Pedro Ximenez sherry by Collete, Encarna, and Joe of the Discover Sherry team.

Lo pasamos estupendo, y ahora a seguir aprendiendo.  Gracias a todos por venir y enhorabuena a los Sherry Explorers.  Los que no pudistéis asistir por otros compromisos os esperamos el tercer jueves de junio en el que podréis hacer vuestro juramento además de asistir a la primera actividad en nuestro campamento base, el Hotel Pinomar.

Those of you who could not make it,  please come by on the third Thursday of June when you can be sworn in and attend the first activity at our base camp, the Hotel Pinomar.
