El equipo Discover Sherry llegamos pronto a la Peña Flamenca El Nitri para preparar todo lo necesario para lo que sería un día de Pre-Feria estupendo.  La pantalla, el proyector, los vinos, las notas de cata, el traje de flamenca, preparados…..listos……YA!!

The Discover Sherry team arrived early to the Peña Flamenca El Nitri to make sure that everything was ready for what would be a great Pre-Feria day at the Peña Flamenca El Nitri.  The screen, the projector, the Sherry wines, the tasting notes, the flamenco dresses, ready….steady….GO!!

¡Lleno total! Stephanie Rico y yo, las organizadores,  dimos la bienvenida a todos.

We had a full house!  Stephanie and myself, the organizers, welcomed everyone.

Hice una introducción a los vinos de jerez en inglés ya que la mayoría de nuestros invitados eran estadounidenses y les hablé sobre los vinos que íbamos a degustar de las Bodegas Delgado Zuleta y González Byass.  ¡Ah! también les hablé del rebujito.  El Rebujito es una bebida muy típica de la feria.   Es refrescante y muy fácil de preparar. Se mezcla en una jarra fino o manzanilla con refresco de lima-limón tipo 7UP o Sprite y hielo.  ¡Salud!

I presented an Introduction to Sherry Wines in English since most of ours guests were American. I also presented the wines we were going to taste from the Delgado Zuleta and González Byass wineries.  Oh! I also explained about the Rebujito!  The rebujito is a popular feria drink. It is refreshing and very easy to prepare.  Mix fino or manzanilla sherry wine with lemon-lime soda such as 7UP or Sprite and ice.  Cheers!

Seguidamente Stephanie dio consejos para ir a la feria, ir cómodos, pasear, ir con amigos, hacer una vaquita, mantenerse hidratados, bailar, beber acompañado de tapas, etc…

Next Stephanie shared some tips for the feria – wear comfortable shoes, go with a group of friends, make a “vaquita”or common fund, stay hydrated, dance,  always eat when you drink, etc…

…y todos disfrutamos de las riquísimas tapas típicas de feria preparadas por Manuel de la Peña El Nitri con el Fino Tío Pepe, Manzanilla La Goya, Amontillado de Zuleta y Nectar Pedró Ximénez (muy dulce) que servimos con el helado de vainilla. Este postre siempre es un exitazo.

…and we all enjoyed the tasty, traditional, feria tapas prepared by Manuel from the Peña El Nitri with the Tio Pepe Fino, Manzanilla La Goya, Amontillado Zuleta and Nectar Pedro Ximénez (very sweet) which we served with vanilla ice-cream, which is always a hit.

Luego subieron al estrado sus hijas, Tia y Sasha que también bailaron unas sevillanas.  Después de un descanso  la madre y sus dos hijas y bailaron  bulerías!!  bulerías!!  y Stephanie también cantó bulerías.   Los españoles que estábamos mirando no nos lo podíamos creer.  Aquí tenemos una familia que lleva cinco años en España y bailan y cantan flamenco con todo el arte del mundo.  Eso sí que es integrarse en la cultura que les rodea.  En junio cuando vuelvan a California se llevarán un pedacito de Andalucía con ellos. ¡Enhorabuena a la familia Rico!

Later, her daughters Tia and Sasha took the stage and danced some Sevillanas. After a break, Mother and her two daughters danced bulerías!! bulerías!! and Stephanie also sang bulerías.  We Spaniards who were watching couldn´t believe our eyes.  Here is a family which has been living in Spain for five years and they dance and sing flamenco as if they were professionals.  That is what I call becoming integrated in the culture around you. In June when they return to California they will take a piece of Andalucía with them.  Congratulations, Rico family!

There were also some guests from Corpus Christi, Texas!  The Benavidez family was here visiting their daughter, Melinda.

We awarded door prizes and the winners were very pleased.
