Our guest speaker,  Ángela Gallego, in addition to being a professor at the University of Cadiz:  is a member of the El Almirez Culinary Association, an excellent chef,  a Sherry Explorer, a great person, and a lover and researcher of the art of flamenco.  You can tell just by listening to her – she experiences her passion and, like a good professor, she transmits it in the same manner.

It was one of those presentations that was completely captivating.  We were spellbound and listened to every single word that Ángela said.  Some of those present surely knew a lot about the origen of flamenco but I am sure in saying that the majority, including me, could not imagine the number of different cultures which have have had an influence in creating the various components of which we now know as flamenco.

The seating area was completely full, and we were all learning as Sherry Explorers always do.  The almost two-hour presentation seemed short to us.  The truth is that the topic was one that would require a lot more time to be complete. This introduction to the origin of flamenco will be followed up, in a few months,  by a tasting  at which we will pair different wines from the Sherry-producing area with the different components of flamenco, accompanied by live music.

…and, as we always do at our meetings, the Sherry Explorers brought some spectacular tapas and desserts, and, as always, it was a very difficult task to select just one of each category as the winners.  The delights created by  Pepi Relinque and Giovanna Vella were selected as the best of that evening.  Congratulations!  We accompanied all of our tapas and desserts with some excellent wines from the Manuel Aragón Bodega.

Don´t miss the video!  I´m sure that you will enjoy it.
