En la Concejalía de Turismo de El Puerto de Santa María, en el Palacio de Araníbar, nos reunimos miembros de la Ruta del Vino y Brandy del Marco de Jerez así como representantes del sector enológico y turístico de la ciudad, entre hoteles, restaurantes, bodegas, viñas, asociaciones, agencias, etcétera; uniendo cultura, enología, tradición y turismo como elementos esenciales en la proyección de este importante atractivo.   El Presidente de la Ruta, César Saldaña,  hizo una presentación sobre las ventajas y el  aprovechamiento de productos y recursos que ofrece la Ruta, explicó y puso en valor los recursos que ofrece esta herramienta de promoción turística que es la Ruta del Vino en el empeño de que El Puerto sea uno de los principales destinos enológicos del Vino y Brandy del Marco de Jerez.  Seguidamente, Yolanda Sanz, del Grupo de Desarrollo Rural,  explicó los fondos ITI destinados al enoturismo.

In the El Puerto de Santa María Tourism Office, located at the Araníbar Palace, members of  Ruta del Vino y Brandy del Marco de Jerez association gathered, along with representatives from the city´s wine and tourist sector.  The group included representatives of hotels, restaurants, wineries, vineyards, associations of wine aficionados, government agencies, etc.  Together, they blended culture, wine-making, tradition and tourism as the essential elements in the projection of this important collaborative effort.   The President of the Ruta association, César Saldaña,  talked about the benefits and advantages of the products and resources that the Ruta members provide.  He identified and encouraged the use of the resources that are available through the association, as a tourism-promotion tool , focusing on how the city of El Puerto can become one of the primary destinations for eno-tourism within the Sherry Wine and Brandy Production area.  Afterwards, Yolanda Sanz, from the Rural Development Group, explained the purpose of ITI funds that are earmarked for eno-tourism.

Después de la parte explicativa en el Palacio de Araníbar, visitamos algunos de los lugares de la ciudad que merecen la pena visitarse y con los que sería muy fácil organizar un paquete enoturístico.  Empezamos por el precioso Castillo de San Marcos y Bodegas Caballero. 

After this informative session at the Araníbar Palace, we visited some of the sites in the city that are worth visiting and to which it would be easy to coordinate visits as part of an eno-tourism packet.  We started at the beautiful  San Marcos Castle and the Caballero Winery. 

Seguidamente visitamos la Real Plaza de Toros donde nos atendió Raúl Capdevilla.  La Plaza abre todos los días al público y ofrece visitas turísticas, guiadas o no, hay una sala de exposiciones así como tienda de recuerdos y productos portuenses y la última novedad: una sastrería taurina.  Cecilia Rodríguez compartió con nosotros el éxito de su empresa Spirit Sherry como miembro de la Ruta de Vino y Brandy.

Next we visited the Real Plaza de Toros, El Puerto´s bullring, where we were met by Raúl Capdevilla.  The bullring is open to the public every day and offers tours with, or without, a guide.  There is an exhibition hall,  and a shop that offers souvenirs as well as products from El Puerto.  Their latest offering is bullfighter´s taylor shop.  While we were there, Cecilia Rodríguez shared a story with us about her company Spirit Sherry´s success as a member of the Ruta del Vino and Brandy association.

Nuestra última visita fue a la Bodega Grant donde Edmundo Grant padre e hijo nos atendieron de maravilla.  Probamos sus excelentes vinos acompañados de buenas tapitas.

Una jornada muy interesante y de la que seguro saldrán ideas y proyectos interesantes para seguir promoviendo el enoturismo en El Puerto.

Our last stop was at the Grant Winery where  two Edmundo Grants, (father and son) warmly greeted us.  We tried some of their excellent wines along with some of their delicious tapas.

It was a very interesting day out of which, I am sure, there will emerge very interesting ideas and projects so that we can continue to promote eno-tourism in El Puerto.
