Javier Maldonado, PhD, gave us a great Master Class on the surprising history of Fino Sherry wines. It is an amazing history that allowed us to understand how a wine, which was initially considered to be weak and sickly, ended up being a unique wine and the gem of the wine-producing industry worldwide.
Fellow Sherry Explorer, Pachi Sibajas, provided us with an excellent presentation on who are the “tireless explorers of sherry wines and Jerez brandies” and about the oath that the new explorers would take. Also, the third-place prize for the Harvest Photo Contest was finally able to be awarded to Jaime Hugo Cuesta. This time, there were three Best-Tapa prize winners. It is becoming increasingly difficult for our juries to pick the best tapas because our Sherry Explorer Chefs´ talent´s are incredible. The winners were Jaime Hugo Cuesta with his “Remojón” dish, Maribel Herrera with her “Tarta de cítricos” dessert, and Pepe González with his “Atún encebollado”. Congratulations!
Our friends and fellow Sherry Explorers, Cecilia and Eduardo from Spirit Sherry, shared with us two wine musts which were the result of the grapes which we harvested and stomped during the past harvest. ” La Bota Tomasa” and ” La Bota Carmela” were both excellent wines and are considered to be very special by all of us. We also tasted “La Puerta Rosa, a red wine created with Syrah and Merlot grape varieties. The bottles, which were all hand-painted by Cecilia, are beautiful.
In addition to the fabulous Spirit Sherry musts and wine, we also enjoyed some Tío Pepe Fino, La Goya Manzanilla, and Gutiérrez Colosía winery´s Oloroso and Cream sherries. They all were perfectly paired with the tapas and desserts provided by our fellow Sherry Explorers. Once again, we have had a wonderful meeting.
