Even though our usual focus is on Sherry wines, it is always good to learn about other wines. So, this time, we attended an intensive course on German wines. It was presented by Tina Heidelberg, who is a sommelier and a Certified Sherry Wine Educator. We reviewed the history of German wines, the various wine production zones, the typical grape varieties, and, the most complex part, the classification of different wines in accordance with the standards set by the VDP (which is the German Association that assigns categories of quality to these wines). We tasted white wines, red wines, sekt (which are sparkling wines similar to Spanish cavas), dry wines, semi-sec and sweet wines, etc…. In the end, it was a very complete and very interesting wine-tasting adventure. Thanks, Tina.
