Four times a year, a group of Sherry wine lovers gets together at the der Guerrita Tavern in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.  This time, our focus was on amontillado sherries.   There they were, served and ready for our analysis.  We started by observing their color and smelling their aroma.  We continued by tasting each one and noting their particular characteristics.  We chose the three that we liked the most, but it was a very difficult decision.

On this blog, we posted our report on the blind taste test that we had in January.   This is the link to the post if you would like to see it.

The next step was to identify the bottles of wine from which we had tasted.  Armando had included two wines, in order to test us, which were a palo cortado and an oloroso.   Now, it was time to identify which was which.  I was only able to correctly identify 3 of them, but two wines which were on my favorites list matched with the majority of those in attendance.  These blind taste tests aren´t easy at all, I guess that makes them so very interesting.

It is an amazing group and we always learn so much from these Sherry wine specialists.  In autumn, Armando Guerra, Antonio Barbadillo, and Ramiro Ibañez will be the featured guest speakers at the Discover Sherry tasting which will be entitled: “The different ages of Manzanilla wine – the young lady of Sherry wines.”
